Sunday, August 29, 1999
We've just lost most of Saturday. Because now it's Sunday. We land in Guangzhou
too late to catch our connection to Changsha. Instead, our guide takes us to get
lunch at the hotel where another group of new parents are wrapping up their
stay. We get to see eight other families. We all get to hold one particularly charming kid.
We can't wait any longer. One more flight gets us on the ground in Changsha. It
is 38 hours after we left Syracuse. This is one grim-looking group, strong in
spirit.
We will sleep well but we have to get up early. Around 10 a.m. Monday (10 p.m.
Sunday in Syracuse), we will get to hold Kaylee. Nothing else matters. Next:
